Here I cover the second part of how to spot the reproduction british army cavalry cap badges.
16th Lancers. - The original british army cap badges are die struck with brazing holes, where as the reproduction copies don't have this and are flat backed.
17th Lancers. - The reproduction cavalry cap badges are very good, but if you check carefully a lot have a flaw in one of the eye sockets where the original die used to reproduce the new badges has worn over the years.
18th Hussars. - The original cap badges should be white metal only, Not very many reproductions of this cavalry cap badge around...as yet.
19th Hussars. - The 1898-1902 and 1902-1909 pattern Original Elephant cap badges are VERY VERY RARE.... So if you believe any sold on eBay are "Genuine" you need to seek medical help!!!!
The Daneborg cross post-1909 cap badge, should have a hairpin slider to strengthen the badge's neck of the A. The repro cap badges have a normal slider and the crown is a lot thinner and wider when compared to a genuine badge.
21st Lancers. - The Victorian crown reproduction army badges, are usually found with 2 lugs. These are very good and again widely available on eBay, but they are usually of a lighter construction than the original badges and bend easily. Also most of the original badges I have come across have had three lugs......
The common Kings crown reproduction british army cap badges, are again very widespread on eBay.
Usually they are copies of the WW1 brass economy version cap badge with a solid centre and flat backed. The genuine cap badges should have bi-metal pennants and be die struck.
22nd Dragoons. - The original cap badge has the XXII fretted (cut out) with a void (gap) under the dragoons title as well.
The reproduction badges are usually solid although there are some newer repro/copy badges with voided numerals but the give away with these are they have 2 lugs where as the original badges always had sliders.
Any brass or cast cap badges are reproduction as they should only be die struck white metal.
24th Lancers. - These cap badges are found with two makers marks (Firmin and J R Gaunt) both having slightly different patterns.
The J R Gaunt pattern cap badges have been very widely copied and sold on eBay. These reproduction cap badges generally have lugs where as the original cap badges would have a slider.
26th Hussars. - Another VERY RARE cap badge.... The reproduction cavalry cap badges are very good and loads are available on eBay.
27th Lancers. - VERY RARE......The reproduction/copy cap badges are very good and again are found a lot on ebay, but they don't have the brazing hole behind the elephants head found on the original cap badges. The reproduction british army cavalry cap badges are usually flat backed and not die struck.
Tank Corps. - 1917-1924 The brass original cap badges come in two patterns, one having more voids than the other. Originals of both pattern cap badges should have sliders.
Any tank corp cap badges with lugs and the white metal ones are more than likely to be reproduction badges...
